From Dec 1977 to Dec 1984, 493 bioprosthetic valves (homologous dura mater valves 32, porcine aortic valves 181 and bovine pericardial valves 280)had been used for heart valve replacement in 407 patients. 92% of these patients had rheumatic heart disease.
